Loki is a log aggregation system released in 2018 by Grafana Labs. It is AGPL v3 licensed and modeled explicitly on Prometheus: it indexes only labels (not log content), stores compressed log chunks in object storage (S3, GCS, Azure Blob), and queries them with LogQL, a PromQL-flavored language. The design tradeoff is cheaper storage and simpler operations in exchange for slower full-text search than Elasticsearch.
